Student wins National Award for Writing

Jordan Thompson, senior at Weatherford High School, has been recognized for receiving the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Achievement Award in Writing.

Thompson submitted four pieces to the contest, three from previous writings, and one extemporaneous piece on an unknown topic to which she was given two hours to write.

This is the fourth year in a row that the WHS English Department has had a student to win this prestigious national award.  The award is given by the NCTE, and provides eligibility for other writing scholarships.

Thompson will be furthering her career by pursuing an English degree in college.  She has already been accepted to the University of Texas at Austin, and is a finalist for the prestigious Thomas Wolfe Scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

She is the daughter of Dr. John Thompson of Weatherford, and a member of the National Honor Society at Weatherford High.
