Administrative Positions Named for WISD
WEATHERFORD -
The Weatherford ISD Board of Trustees named several administrators
during the summer board meetings. The top
administrative positions were announced for Hall Middle School, the
Ninth Grade Center, Seguin Elementary, the director of special programs,
and the director of student services. Michelle
Howard-Schwind was named as the Hall Middle School principal, Charles
Carroll is the new Ninth Grade Center principal, and Patti Woods is
the new director of special programs for WISD.
Howard-Schwind is
currently the assistant principal at Coppell Middle School East and
West. Coppell Middle School is a TEA “Recognized” campus and a Blue
Ribbon School. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin,
Howard-Schwind began her teaching career as the Theatre Arts Director
at Richland High School before moving to Northwest High School in
1997. Howard-Schwind received her master of education at UT
Arlington, and is currently working on attaining a doctor of
philosophy from the University of North Texas.
The Ninth Grade
Center Principal, Charles Carroll, is currently the assistant
principal at Weatherford High School. Carroll earned his bachelor and
master’s degrees from Texas Tech University. Carroll began teaching
at Weatherford High School in 1997 and soon took on leadership
responsibilities as the chairperson for the Advanced Placement program
for grades 6-12. Carroll served as the district English/Language Arts
Content Coordinator in WISD for four years prior to moving to the high
school. He is a trainer in New Jersey Writing Project of Texas and a
former trainer of AP Literature and Language Composition for The
College Board.
Patti Woods was
named as the new special programs director. Woods is the principal of
Seguin Elementary and has been with Weatherford ISD since 1992. Woods
joined the district as a Special Education teacher at Curtis
Elementary and served as the assistant principal there until being
appointed as principal at Bowie Elementary in 1999. Woods is a
graduate of Texas Wesleyan College and received her bachelor degree in
elementary education learning and disabilities, PK-12, elementary
psychology grades 1-8 and special education self-contained for grades
1-8. Woods earned a master of education at Texas Women’s University.
Dr. Nita Ellis was named as the new
Director of Student Services. Dr. Ellis began teaching in Weatherford
in 1977 at the Weatherford Middle School before being named as an
assistant principal at Weatherford High School in 1984. Dr. Ellis
received a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University, a master degree
from Tarleton State University and a doctorate degree from Baylor
University. Dr. Ellis earned a secondary Spanish Certification from
the Centro Bilingue, Cuernavaca, Mexico. An advocate for supporting
community activities for young people, Dr. Ellis is an active member
of the Weatherford Optimist Club and has served as the North Texas
District Lt. Governor. Dr. Ellis has been in the Weatherford ISD for
the past 29 years.
Kathy Dorris was named as the new
Seguin Elementary Principal. Ms. Dorris is a 1991 graduate of Stephen
F. Austin State University. She received her master’s degree from
Tarleton State University. Ms. Dorris began her teaching career as a
special education teacher at Crockett Elementary School in
Weatherford. After serving three years as a counselor in the Fort
Worth ISD, Ms. Dorris returned to WISD as a counselor at Bowie
Elementary. Ms. Dorris moved from Bowie to Seguin Elementary in 2001
when the school opened and has served as the assistant principal for
the past year. An active mother of three, Dorris spends time juggling
between the Weatherford Soccer Association and the Weatherford Little
League Association, as well as serving as a volunteer and participant
for the local Race for the Cure
and Project Christmas Volunteer.
Ms. Dorris has been in the district for 11 years.
