Williams Signs with Tarleton State University

WEATHERFORD – Former Kangaroo Football Player, Matt Williams, recently signed with the Tarleton State University Football Team for the 2006 season.

Williams, 18, played on the WHS Varsity Football Team for two years as a kicker and wide receiver.  Last year, he made a 49 yard field goal tying the score between WHS and Mineral Wells on September 9, 2005.  In overtime, he kicked a 28 yard field goal helping the Roos win the 49-46.  Williams scored a total of 37 points for WHS in the 2005 season.

Along with football, Williams played Varsity Soccer at WHS for four years.  This past year he excelled in both sports, being chosen for the All-District 1st Team for soccer and All-District 2nd Team for football.  He was also named Academic All-District and Academic All-State for both football and soccer.  At WHS, Williams was also a member of the Dodgeball and Volleyball clubs, the National Honor Society, and a 2006 Texas Scholars.

Williams, the son of Tommy and Linda Williams of Weatherford, will be attending Tarleton on a Athletic Scholarship.  Tarleton State University is located in Stephenville, Texas, and serves over 6,000 students.  Williams will join the Texans Football team for the 2006-2007 season.
