Williams Signs
with Tarleton State University
WEATHERFORD – Former Kangaroo Football Player, Matt Williams, recently signed with
the Tarleton State University Football Team for the 2006 season.
Williams, 18,
played on the WHS Varsity Football Team for two years as a kicker and
wide receiver. Last year, he made a 49 yard field goal tying the
score between WHS and Mineral Wells on September 9, 2005. In
overtime, he kicked a 28 yard field goal helping the Roos win the
49-46. Williams scored a total of 37 points for WHS in the 2005
season.
Along with football, Williams
played Varsity Soccer at WHS for four years. This past year he
excelled in both sports, being chosen for the All-District 1st Team
for soccer and All-District 2nd Team for football. He was also
named Academic All-District and Academic All-State for both football
and soccer. At WHS, Williams was also a member of the Dodgeball
and Volleyball clubs, the National Honor Society, and a 2006 Texas
Scholars.
Williams, the son of Tommy and
Linda Williams of Weatherford, will be attending Tarleton on a
Athletic Scholarship. Tarleton State University is located in
Stephenville, Texas, and serves over 6,000 students. Williams
will join the Texans Football team for the 2006-2007 season.
