Education Foundation Coordinator wins
Statewide Communication Award

WEATHERFORD –
Olympians are not the
only ones taking home the gold this year! Charlotte LaGrone,
Weatherford ISD Education Foundation Coordinator, has recently been
awarded a Gold Star and Best in Category Medal for an invitation or
announcement by the Texas School Public Relations Association.
Each year TSPRA recognizes
school communicators for excellence in print and electronic media.
Judged by an independent panel, entries are submitted by category
reflecting the size of the district and type of publication.
Silver and Gold Stars are awarded to participants displaying
outstanding work in projects for school communications. The Gold Star
entries then compete against each other for a Best in Category Award.
This award reflects the entry that stood out above all of others in
the state for creativity, production, and design.
LaGrone was honored with a Gold Star and Best in Category award for an
invitation designed for the 2005 Phantom Valentine’s Day Ball, a
non-event intended to raise money for the WISD Education Foundation.
For this ball, there’s no need to order flowers or take a refresher
course in dancing. There are no raffle tickets to purchase, no
dancing, and no boring after-dinner speaker. Instead, the Education
Foundation invited approximately 500 guests to support the programs
sponsored by the Foundation while enjoying an evening at home with
family and friends.
Presented at the Star Awards banquet in Austin on February 23, the
WISD Communication Department proudly accepted the award on behalf of
LaGrone, which was then presented to her at the Foundation meeting on
Tuesday, February 28.
"It is so awesome to win this award,” said LaGrone. “Our committee
really pulled together to develop the invitation to this "non event".
We are thrilled at the success of the project and appreciate all who
have donated to the Education Foundation through this event. Over
$8,000 has been raised since our first mailing last spring."
The Weatherford ISD Education Foundation, a 501(c) (3) organization,
began in 2000. The Foundation supports
funding grants to WISD teachers for innovative programs, provides
school supplies for students in economic need, and awards scholarships
to teachers for continuing education.
Donations to the 2nd Annual Phantom Ball are still being
accepted. For more information, contact
