WHS Football Team Receives the Community
Award from Discount Tires
Not only does the WHS Football Team work
hard during the regular football season, they work hard in the off
season as well. With over 130 athletes in grades 10-12, the team
has pulled together to work hard for the community, the Center of Hope
to be exact.
The Center of Hope is a 501 (c) (3)
nonprofit organization funded by gifts from individuals, churches,
foundations and corporations. It's mission is to help restore
broken lives, families and dreams by offering a variety of
free-of-charge services from counseling to children's programs and a
food bank. All services are designed to help anyone in need.
Today, the team received the Community
Award from Discount Tires for their efforts last year in collecting
7000 cans of food for the Center of Hope. Inside High School
Extra from UPN channel 21, was there to film the special event in
which the team was presented with a plaque and a $400 check that will
go to the Booster Club. This outstanding accomplishment shows
that the team is not only passionate about football, but also helping
others in our community.
Once again, the team is collecting
canned food or any nonperishable food items for the Center of Hope.
This year's goal is 7200 cans, 200 cans more than last year.
Donations will be accepted through Wednesday, December 15 and can be
taken to the WHS Athletic Office.
