WISD Participates in Texas Recycles Day
During the
week of November 8, all WISD campuses will participate in an aluminum
can drive as their part in Texas Recycles Day (TRD). TRD
encourages Texans to start recycling or increase their recycling
efforts.
WISD campuses will be competing
with local school districts for a chance to win a laptop donated by
IESI Waste Management Company. The second prize winner will
collect $50 in cash donated by Power Services.
Campuses will be
collecting aluminum cans until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 12.
Classrooms collecting the most cans at each campus will win
pizza gift certificates donated from CiCi's Pizza.
“This
is an incredible effort of the businesses in our community, and a
great chance for our students to gain an understanding of how valuable
the recycling process is to our environment. There are lots of
activities planned to show adults and students just how many ways you
can re-use items that will help to keep the landfills free of these
materials, " stated MJ McDaniel, Public Information Officer of WISD.
The County wide
event to be held at Hall Middle School on Saturday, November 13, will
focus on the 4 "R's": Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rebuy. This
program is partnered by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality
(TCEQ) and Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB). JAMAK Fabrication, along
with many other local sponsors, will spear-head the local event on
Saturday. Not only will
items of paper and aluminum be recycled, but items such as eye
glasses, bagged clothes, coats and canned goods will be collected for
reuse. Bleach, kitty litter, and laundry detergent can also be
donated to the Parker County Animal Shelter.
Keep Texas
Beautiful, a nonprofit state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful,
strives to empower Texans through education to take responsibility for
enhancing their community environment and ensure that every Texan has
the opportunity to take individual responsibility for making Texas the
cleanest, most beautiful state in the nation.
