Good News on TAKS Scores for Weatherford
ISD
The 2005 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS)
scores for third and fifth grade reading were received by the district
on Wednesday last week. Ninety-one percent of the third grade
students mastered the 2005 first administration of the TAKS Reading
test. More than 40 percent of the district’s third grade students
earned the “Commended” performance designation, which represents
academic achievement at a level that is considerably higher than the
state passing standard. The “Commended” rating is earned when
students answer 94 percent of the questions correctly.
This is the first year that fifth grade students are
required to pass the reading portion of the TAKS in order to be
promoted to the sixth grade. District-wide, 87 percent of the WISD
fifth graders “Met Standard” for the reading exam. Students are
considered to have “Met Standard” when they answer 71 percent of the
test correctly.
There are 39 third grade students and 56 fifth grade
students who “Did Not Meet the Standard.” Students will have two
additional opportunities to take the Reading portion of the test
during the April administration of the TAKS test and if needed,
following attending summer school in June. Parents were notified as
soon as the results were learned by campus principals, so that
interventions could begin to help students accelerate their learning.
