WISD Receives Top Awards for Accounting
and Financial Reporting
Rest assured. Your tax dollars are
well-spent in the Weatherford Independent School District. This
fact was confirmed at the January 13th Board of Trustees meeting when
the WISD Business Office received 2 top awards from the State of Texas
for accounting and financial reporting.
The Certificate of Achievement for
Excellence in Financial Reporting was awarded to the WISD Business
Office by the Government
Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA)
for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The
Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the
area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its
attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and
its management. This is the 12th year in a row that the business
office has received this honor.
In addition, the district received a
rating of "Superior Achievement" for the 2003-2004 school year
from the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). The
FIRST is a two-year old evaluation system created by the Texas
Education Agency (TEA). The rating is based on 21 financial
indicators.
The primary purpose of Schools FIRST is to achieve
quality performance in the management of school districts’ financial
resources. This purpose was made more significant due to the complexity
of accounting associated with the Texas school finance system.
"We are very pleased with these honors," said
Superintendent Dr. Deborah Cron, "as it shows that our district is
making the most of our taxpayers’ dollars. These ratings show that
WISD’s schools are accountable not only for student learning, but also
for achieving these results cost-effectively and efficiently."
