506 Business Computer Information Systems I* (BCIS1-TP) Two Semesters: Grades 10-12 *-Tech Prep College Credit Prerequisite: Keyboarding Proficiency Requirement for graduation - This course fulfills 1 credit of Technology Applications Students apply technology skills to personal/workplace business situations focused on word processing, spreadsheet, database, telecommunications, desktop publishing, presentation management, networking, operating systems and emerging technologies. Students should complete the course with an intermediate skill level in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. 510 Business Law (BUSLAW) Fall semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: None Business Law provides insight into the evolution and development of laws that govern business in our society. Students will understand their rights and responsibilities as consumers. Emphasis will be placed on consumer protection laws, contracts and other personal financial management issues. 648 Technical Introduction to Criminal Justice* (TICJ) Fall semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: None * Tech Prep College Credit The history and philosophy of law enforcement and criminal justice and its ethical considerations are presented. Students gain a basic knowledge of the police, courts and correctional structures within the criminal justice system. 649 Crime in America* (CAM) Spring semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: None * Tech Prep College Credit Students study American crime and related problems in historical perspective, social and public policy factors affecting crime, impact and crime trends, social characteristics of specific crimes and prevention of crime. Study is related to local, state and federal agencies and their function within the criminal justice system. 650 Fundamentals of Criminal Law* (FUNCRLA) Fall semester: Grade 11-12 Prerequisite: Tech Intro to Criminal Justice or Crime in America * Tech Prep College Credit Instruction will include the study of the nature of criminal law, philosophical and historical development, major definitions and concepts, classification of crime, elements of crimes and penalties using Texas statutes as illustrations and criminal responsibility. 647 Criminal Investigations (CRIMINV) Spring semester: Grades 11-12 Prerequisite: Tech Intro to Criminal Justice or Crime in America This course provides a basic overview of investigative theory, collection and preservation of evidence and sources of information. Students will discover how to conduct interviews and interrogations. Students will have opportunities to discover and learn how to apply forensic science techniques in many areas of investigations. Criminal investigation will be studied with attention to details in our criminal laws and essential elements of crime. The class will utilize practical applications, videos and “whodunit” exercises relating to investigating crimes. There will be guest speakers from various law enforcement agencies. Through reading, writing and discussion, members of the class will develop skills to investigate crimes. 662 Diversified Career Preparation I (DCP1) Two semesters: Grades 11-12 Prerequisite: None P.E. Credit: This course fulfills 1.0 credit in P.E. (An additional 0.5 credit of PE-1A Foundations must be taken to satisfy the PE graduation requirement) Students must be employed for the full year at approved training stations in the community. DCP is a non-specific occupational course designed to provide classroom training in how to get, keep and advance on-the-job experiences. Work-based learning is provided by local business sponsors and goals are set through training plans for the student. 663 Diversified Career Preparation II (DCP2) Two semesters: Grade 12 Prerequisite: DCP I Students must be employed for the full year at approved training stations in the community. DCP is a non-specific occupational course designed to provide classroom training in how to get, keep, and advance on-the-job experiences. Work-based learning is provided by local business sponsors and goals are set through training plans for the student.
