Prerequisite: Keyboarding Proficiency

Requirement for graduation - This course fulfills 1 credit of Technology Applications

Students apply technology skills to personal/workplace business situations focused on word processing, spreadsheet, database, telecommunications, desktop publishing, presentation management, networking, operating systems and emerging technologies.  Students should complete the course with an intermediate skill level in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.

Content stresses parental responsibilities, child guidance techniques, parents as positive role models, parents as their children’s first teacher, health, safety and well-being.

 602 Child Development *                               (CHDEV-TP)

Spring semester:  Grades 10-12

Prerequisite:  None                           * Tech Prep College Credit

Instruction addresses the principles and procedures for promoting the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development of young children, including those with special needs. Course prepares students for an Internship in child Care & Guidance Management and Services.

 603 Nutrition & Food Science                                  (NU&FDSCI)

Fall semester: Grades 10-12

Prerequisite: None  

Content concentrates on nutrition, food choices and food management skills for individuals and the family throughout the life cycle. Meal etiquette, career options and techniques for managing multiple family and wage earner roles are part of the content. This course will help prepare students for Child Development Intern.

 604 Food Science & Technology                        (FDSCI&TK)

Spring semester:  Grades 10-12

Prerequisite: None     

Instructional topics include diet-related disorders, diets appropriate to the life cycle and other factors and chemical and physical changes that affect food product quality. Additional topics are technologies used in food processing and product development, food safety and sanitation standards, market research, legal issues and food policies.

605 Teacher Intern I-Child Care & Guidance Mgmt. and Services I-(CHD-CR-I)

Two semesters:  Two periods each semester:  Grades 11-12

Prerequisite: None

P.E. Credit:   This course fulfills 1.0 credit in P.E.  (An additional 0.5 credit of PE-1A Foundations must be taken to satisfy the PE graduation requirement)

Training in this course is designed to develop knowledge and skills for employment as elementary education teachers. Students shadow elementary teachers, develop lesson plans and implement class activities. . Students are expected to provide their own transportation to their assigned elementary school.  They are also expected to follow the dress and grooming code set for WISD teachers during their internships.
