506 Business Computer Information Systems I* (BCIS1-TP) Two Semesters: Grades 10-12 *-Tech Prep College Credit Prerequisite: Keyboarding Proficiency Requirement for graduation - This course fulfills 1 credit of Technology Applications Students apply technology skills to personal/workplace business situations focused on word processing, spreadsheet, database, telecommunications, desktop publishing, presentation management, networking, operating systems and emerging technologies. Students should complete the course with an intermediate skill level in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. 666 Cosmetology I (CSMT) Two Semesters: Three Periods each semester: Grades 11-12 Prerequisite: None Certification: Two year program for the Texas Cosmetology Commission License P.E. Credit: This course fulfills 1.0 credit in P.E. (An additional 0.5 credit of PE-1A Foundations must be taken to satisfy the PE graduation requirement) This course is a two year program and designed for 500 clock hours each year. To attain the required 500 hours each year, students must enroll for three periods and start early in the A.M. session or stay late in the P.M. session each day to reach the required hours. Students will clock into class each day according to the State Cosmetology Commission guidelines. The two year, 1000 clock hour sequence of classroom and laboratory instruction, is designed to provide job-specific training for entry level employment in a variety of cosmetology careers. Instruction includes all Texas Cosmetology Commission state board requirements including: sterilization and sanitation processes, shampooing and rinsing, hair coloring, advanced hair cutting, permanent waving, thermal and chemical hair straightening, make-up, facials and massages, nail techniques, etc. Student organization, SkillsUSA, allows students to compete at district and state contests in hair cutting, hairstyling and various nail art procedures. Students are required to register for the Texas Cosmetology Commission license and purchase a lab kit/lab coat when they enroll in the course. COST: Approximately $375 for the first year Total Credits: 4 (3 state credits + 1 local credit) 667 Cosmetology II (CSMT II) Two Semesters: Three Periods each semester: Grade - 12 Prerequisite: Cosmo I Certification: Texas Cosmetology Commission License The second year for the course is a planned 500 clock hour course. Students will complete the 1000 clock hours of required training, classroom and laboratory instruction. To attain the required 500 hours, students must enroll for three periods and start early in the A.M. session or stay late in the P.M. session. Upon completion of the required 1000 hours, students will take a trip to Austin for the TCC state board exam. This program is active in the student organization, SkillsUSA. Students compete at district and state levels with hair cutting, hairstyling and various nail art procedures. COST: Approximately $150 + exam trip expenses to Austin. Total Credits: 4 (3 state credits + 1 local credit.
