F=First Semester S=Second Semester 501/502 Keyboarding (KEYBRDG) Fall or Spring Semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: None This class will develop students keyboarding skills. Correct touch and keyboarding techniques are stressed. Letter, number, and symbol keys are taught. Students will work on speed and accuracy and learn basic formatting. Students interested in other courses in the Business Services Career Pathway, the CISCO Academy and Multimedia and Animation are strongly encouraged to take Keyboarding. 506 Business Computer Information Systems I* (BCIS1-TP) Two Semesters: Grades 10-12 *-Tech Prep College Credit Prerequisite: Keyboarding Proficiency Requirement for graduation - This course fulfills 1 credit of Technology Applications Students apply technology skills to personal/workplace business situations focused on word processing, spreadsheet, database, telecommunications, desktop publishing, presentation management, networking, operating systems and emerging technologies. Students should complete the course with an intermediate skill level in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. 507 Business Computer Information Systems II (ADVBCIS1) Two semesters: Grades 11-12 Prerequisite: BCIS I Certification: MOUS Certification Earn Microsoft Specialist Certification at WHS! Why? Not only does Microsoft Certification validate that you are an expert with the Microsoft XP Suite, but it provides official resume-building industry standard that often results in job advancement, increased salary and greater job satisfaction. MOUS certification is a globally recognized standard and students earn Microsoft diplomas. BCIS II students concentrate on the following Microsoft Office User Specialists (MOUS) Certifications: ü WORD MOUS CERTFICATION: Learn how to use desktop publishing features, create web pages using MS Word, integrate databases in MS Word and many more advance features. ü POWER POINT MOUS CERTIFICATION: Learn how to use advance techniques in power point: Creating on-line presentations and managing presentations. ü EXCEL MOUS CERTIFICATION: Add, show, close, edit, merge and summarize scenarios, manage workbooks, creating and revising formulas and creating and modifying graphs. ü ACCESS MOUS CERTIFICATION: Create databases, create and modify repots, tables, forms and queries; Learn how to integrate Access with other programs. 508 Business Management * (BUMGMT-TP) Fall Semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: None *-Tech Prep College Credit This course introduces basic management concepts and leadership styles; explores managerial functions, economic and social components of productivity, international business and human relations; explains the changing nature of the business environment; presents concepts of business integrity and requires students to develop and implement a business plan. 509 Business Ownership* (BOWNS-TP) Spring Semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: None *-Tech Prep College Credit Business Ownership provides the prospective entrepreneur a theoretical base as well as practical and proven techniques for planning, organizing and operating a business. It includes planning and strategy concepts, financial and organizational considerations, market analysis, customer development, operations management, accounting and financial controls and other components of entrepreneurship.
510 Business Law (BUSLAW) Fall Semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: None Business Law provides insight into the evolution and development of laws that govern business in our society. Students will understand their rights and responsibilities as consumers. Emphasis will be placed on consumer protection laws, contracts and other personal financial management issues. 511 Accounting 1* (BACCT-TP) Two Semesters: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: None *-Tech Prep College Credit Accounting 1 introduces students to accounting concepts, principles and procedures. The course emphasizes the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for individuals to conduct personal business or to further their education in the field of accounting. The students will use manual and automated methods to perform accounting procedures. 512 Accounting 2 * (AACCT-TP) Two Semesters: Grades 11-12 Prerequisite: Accounting I *-Tech Prep College Credit Accounting 2 provides the student an opportunity to review and further develop fundamental accounting principles using technology. The course helps students develop additional skills in applying principles used in accounting systems and other business methods. Accounting 2 is designed for students interested in continuing their education at the post-secondary level or entering the workforce. 513 Leadership Internship-Business Administrative Career Preparation I (BECP1-TP)* Fall or Spring Semester: Grade 12 *-Tech Prep College Credit Prerequisite: Application Required – See the Career Counselor Students will shadow a company executive of choice. The class will meet for two periods. Students meet one day in class and are released four days a week to shadow their desired business training station. Students must provide their own transportation. Students may choose the profession they wish to explore, shadow the business executive and develop the skills needed to enter that business after graduation from high school/college. 515 Business Image Management & Multimedia-Web Mastering * (BIM&M-TP) Two Semesters: Grades 10-12 *-Tech Prep College Credit Prerequisite: Keyboarding Proficiency Requirement for graduation - This course fulfills 1 credit of Technology Applications In this course students will explore a variety of electronic input devices, become informed of laws, regulations, and issues regarding the use of technology in society and develop proficiencies in designing importing and manipulating advanced text, graphics, audio and video used in presentation management and websites. A wide variety of strategies to acquire information from electronic resources and in various formats will be used with appropriate supervision.
