F=First Semester S=Second Semester 506 Business Computer Information Systems I* (BCIS1-TP) Two Semesters: Grades 10-12 *-Tech Prep College Credit Prerequisite: Keyboarding Proficiency Requirement for graduation - This course fulfills 1 credit of Technology Applications Students apply technology skills to personal/workplace business situations focused on word processing, spreadsheet, database, telecommunications, desktop publishing, presentation management, networking, operating systems and emerging technologies. Students should complete the course with an intermediate skill level in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. 613 Introduction to World Agricultural Science & Technology Fall semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: None Basic beginning course to all Agriculture courses. Course provides an introduction to global agriculture and includes units in leadership development, communications, personal finance and mechanized agriculture. 614 Applied Agricultural Science & Technology (Apagscte) Spring semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: None This course includes the study of soils, plants, animals, agricultural construction, food science, supervised agricultural experience programs, and career development. 622 Plant and Animal Production (AMPLPRO) Spring semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: Intro to World Ag Science & Tech. This course is designed to discuss the importance and influence of soils, soil fertility, soil conservation, plants and animals on society. Topics include: physical and chemical properties of soils, soil and water conservation and how to improve the quality of major crops, plant anatomy and physiology, trends in animal products, animal anatomy and physiology, nutrient requirements of animals and animal management practices. 623 Wildlife and Recreation Management (WIRECMGT) Fall semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: None Certification: Texas Hunter Safety This course is designed to examine the importance of wildlife and outdoor recreation with emphasis on using wildlife and natural resources. Course study will include overage of biological facts, habitat management and industry related skills. Students have the opportunity to earn their Texas Hunter Safety Certification. 624 Range Management & Ecology* (RANGEMGT) Spring semester: Grades 11-12 Prerequisite: Intro to World Ag Science & Tech. *-Tech Prep College Credit Students taking Rangeland Management will discuss the establishment and maintenance of pasture for livestock grazing as well as the support of wildlife. Emphasis will be placed on identification of range plants and control of weeds. Students will classify range plants, determine desirable and undesirable characteristics of range ecology, recommend appropriate range practices and recognize the impact that rangeland has on the water cycle. 626 Agricultural Metal Fabrication Technology (AGMFTECH) Fall or Spring semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: Intro to World Ag Science & Tech. This lab course is designed to develop skills in metal equipment assembly and joining processes. Emphasis will be placed on the use of stick welders, wire feed welders and oxygen-acetylene torches. Students will develop welding skills applicable to the agriculture industry. 627 Introduction to Agricultural Mechanics (INAGMECH) Fall semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: Intro to World Ag Science & Tech. This lab course is designed to introduce basic theory and specialized skills in agricultural mechanics. Skills to be developed include tool identification and safe use, carpentry, electricity, plumbing, masonry, fencing, painting, metalworking and welding processes 628 Agricultural Structures Technology (AGSCTECH) Spring semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: Intro to World Ag Science & Tech. This lab course is designed to develop skills in the maintenance, evaluation, design and building of agricultural structures using approved construction techniques for metal or wood. 629 Agricultural Mechanics I (AGMECH) Two Semesters: Grades 11-12 Prerequisite: Introduction to Agricultural Mechanics AG Mechanics I lab course is designed to introduce concepts and skills necessary in agricultural mechanics. The course emphasizes soil and water conservation, electrification, concrete, masonry, building planning and construction. Students will also develop skills in small engine and AG equipment maintenance and repair, oxyfuel and electric cutting and welding. 631 Animal Science (ANIMALSC) Fall semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: Intro to World Ag Science & Tech. This is a course designed to develop knowledge and skills pertaining to the nutrition, reproduction, health and management of domestic animals. 632 Equine Science* (EQUINESC) Spring semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: Intro to World Ag Science & Tech *-Tech Prep College Credit This course is designed to develop knowledge and skills pertaining to the selection, nutrition, reproduction, health and management of horses. 633 Advanced Animal Science* - Vet Terms (ADVANSCI) Fall semester: Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: Intro to World Ag Science & Tech. *-Tech Prep College Credit This course is an advanced animal science class designed to teach students basic veterinarian terminology and techniques used in everyday veterinary medicine. |
