Tech Prep

Many of the courses in the CTE Department will articulate for college credit through Tech Prep Programs. Tech Prep is a process; students take courses in high school, that may earn college credit in specific associate degree plans.

WISD has Tech Prep plans articulated in:

  • Agriculture Science
  • Technology Education
  • Business Education
  • Computer Technology
  •  Family and Consumer Sciences
  •  Technology Education
  • Trade and Industrial Education.

In each of these areas there are courses in which students can earn high school and college credit simultaneously. To be eligible for the college credit, which is free of charge, students must complete the following:

  • Sign-up for Tech Prep while they are in high school (see CTE Counselor);
  • Pass the appropriate courses for the Tech Prep career cluster with a minimum grade of 80;
  • Attend the appropriate college after graduation from high school for at least one semester; and
  • Enroll in the appropriate college degree plan

These steps must be completed before college credit is awarded.  No tuition is charged for college credit earned through the Tech Prep Program.  Each student declaring Tech Prep and fulfilling the high school requirements will receive a certificate upon graduation from high school. The certificate will list the courses that articulate high school credit in the specified associate degree plan correlating with the student’s chosen career cluster.

In each of the Career Concentrations, you will find a link to "Course Offerings."  All CTE courses that will articulate to Weatherford College and/or Texas State Technical College have a single asterisk(*) after the title.  Check Weatherford College's website for additional information wctechprep.net

Statewide Articulation, SWA

There are some CTE courses that Weatherford College, TSTC in Waco and most community colleges in the state of Texas that will transcript as college credit.

Interested students should complete a Personal Plan for Progress and the appropriate forms provided by the college.  Students may sign-up for Tech Prep with their CTE instructor or CTE Counselor in the Career Center.
